Slumber

Still no laptop. So raw edit. Koriandre from 'Carol of the Bells'. The following scene takes place in chapter five.

Most people seek refuge in a church when they are alone. He had come to seek refuge there too, only for a different reason then the rest. He came to see her everyday, her tower was like a second home to him. Much warmer and safer. So when his house collapsed in the middle of the night, he found himself standing in her living space. A pack with what he could dig out upon his back, and his faithful companion, Silkie, at his feet. There was no turning back, and yet, where else could he go? She was his dearest friend. He knew she would let him stay, if fact, she wouldn't let him leave. The hardest part was finding the nerve to wake her up.
He couldn't do it. She looked too innocent, too perfect. He couldn't bring her to the world which she had escaped for the night.
She was content. The way she brought her knees up, the way her feet locked together, even the sheer beauty of her ruby red locks sprawled across the floor. It was like she was other worldly.
She was, he'll admit. And that's why he was so fond of her. So strange, and yet, so simple. It was the reason he kept coming back. He loved her, no doubt about it. If only the invisible chains that bound her to the tower would dissipate.
He knelt next to her and gave a kiss to her temple. She smiled in her sleep and whispered a sweet, "Richarde..."
Whether or not he was allowed to stay, he rested against the wall, slowly let himself join her in slumber.
